A chaotic Saturday night in Englewood ended with a man in custody after Chicago police say he crashed his motorized scooter and opened fire on officers. No one was hurt, and a handgun was recovered at the scene, according to authorities.
What the police say
The Chicago Police Department told reporters that the confrontation started in the 6400 block of S. Green Street shortly before 8 p.m., according to FOX 32 Chicago. Officers said they spotted a man riding a motorized scooter on the sidewalk "in an unsafe manner" when he hit a light pole and fell.
Police say the rider tried to run away but then turned and fired three shots at officers. After a brief foot chase, officers arrested the man and recovered a gun. No injuries were reported. Charges are pending, and area detectives are investigating the incident.
Scooters and violence in Chicago
The episode adds to a string of recent cases in which suspects have allegedly used scooters to flee crime scenes or to carry out robberies and shootings in Chicago.
