Gunfire broke out Tuesday afternoon at a Texaco gas station on Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain, leaving one person shot as DeKalb County police worked to lock down the busy corridor and comb for evidence.
Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 6200 block of Memorial Drive and confirmed one person was hurt, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The victim's condition has not been released, and investigators have not yet said what led to the gunfire or whether anyone is in custody.
Scene and evidence
WSB-TV reporters at the scene said officers blocked off a large portion of the parking lot and marked at least 20 shell casings with evidence markers. The shooting happened near Sun City Caribbean Restaurant and Final Touch Car Wash, the station reported.
Violence and enforcement along Memorial Drive
The same stretch of Memorial Drive has been on law enforcement's radar recently. In March, DeKalb officers executed a search warrant in the 6200 block that led to a fentanyl and firearms seizure. Earlier this year, investigators also probed a deadly shooting outside a Memorial Drive shopping center, as reported by CBS Atlanta.
What investigators are asking
DeKalb detectives have not released suspect descriptions or detailed updates on the victim and say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information, photos or video is asked to submit an anonymous tip through DeKalb's tip system: text 'DKPD' to 847411 or use the department's tip app, per the DeKalb County anonymous tip page.
Next steps
Authorities say they will release more details as they become available, and local stations are continuing to monitor the investigation, as FOX 5 Atlanta noted. We will update this story when DeKalb police provide new information.
