A Saturday food run at a Berry Hill Walgreens turned deadly when a DoorDash driver shot and killed a man police say was trying to carjack him in the parking lot. The driver was hit in the leg and taken to a hospital, where officers say he is expected to recover. When police arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds and opened an active investigation.
Police: Driver Shot After Alleged Carjacking Attempt
According to WSMV, officers responded just before 1 p.m. to the Walgreens in the 2600 block of 8th Avenue South after reports of gunfire. A preliminary account given to the station said the DoorDash driver had walked next door to pick up a Chick-fil-A order. As he came back, an armed suspect approached, got into the driver’s vehicle, and shot him in the leg. The driver then returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Don Aaron, public affairs director for the Metro Nashville Police Department, is handling media inquiries for the case. “The investigation is ongoing,” Aaron told WSMV, which also reported that the driver was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover. Police have not released the suspect’s name and have not said whether the driver could face charges as detectives process the crime scene and track down additional information.
Delivery Workers and Local Context
This is at least the second high-profile violent incident involving a delivery driver in Nashville this year. In January, a DoorDash driver was fatally shot after a late-night delivery near Murfreesboro Pike. That earlier killing sparked discussions about the safety of app-based workers, and this weekend’s shooting is adding fresh urgency for drivers who say they often work alone in exposed, late-hour settings.
