Boynton Beach woke up to a grim discovery Saturday morning after police found the body of a 29-year-old man in a wooded area near Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park. Officers say they were called to the area near South Federal Highway at about 7 a.m. and located the man in the brush. Investigators are treating the death as a homicide.
What Police Know So Far
Authorities have identified the victim as 29-year-old Jordan Scales. Detectives believe the incident could have taken place as early as April 16. Scales was found in thick brush near 1900 South Federal Highway, and the case has been turned over to homicide investigators. Anyone with information is urged to contact Boynton Beach police detectives at 561-742-6113, according to WPTV.
Where The Case Is Centered
Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park is a waterfront spot along the Intracoastal, known for its boat ramps, fishing pier and protected mangrove areas that stretch back toward South Federal Highway. Those mixed wetlands and wooded edges can make searches and evidence collection difficult, according to the City of Boynton Beach's parks information.
Recent Violence In The Area
The discovery comes only months after other violent incidents in Boynton Beach that have drawn increased attention from law enforcement. In January, a double murder-suicide at a Boynton Beach office plaza prompted a large police response, highlighting the range of public-safety challenges investigators are dealing with in the city, as reported by Local 10 News.
How To Help Investigators
Police are again asking the public to help fill in the gaps. Anyone with tips or information about this case is asked to call Boynton Beach police detectives at 561-742-6113. For the original local reporting on the discovery, see WPTV.
