The Mount Washington neighborhood had a tense few minutes Thursday night when a report of a person with a gun near Sands Montessori School prompted a brief lockdown and road closures. Cincinnati police rushed to the intersection of Coffey and Corbly streets after getting word of an armed individual, and officers shut down nearby roads while an evening event continued inside the school. The night ended quietly when a police negotiator convinced the person to give up.
Negotiator Persuades Person To Surrender
According to WLWT, officers were dispatched to Coffey and Corbly around 8:58 p.m. Thursday for a person believed to be suicidal and armed. Police shut down streets around the scene, and the school went into a precautionary lockdown while an evening program carried on inside. Investigators said a department negotiator spoke with the person and ultimately persuaded them to surrender. The individual was taken for a mental health evaluation, and officers recovered the weapon.

Sands Montessori, at 6421 Corbly Street in Mount Washington, serves neighborhood students under the Cincinnati Public Schools umbrella. As cruisers blocked off Corbly and nearby streets, residents snapped photos and posted questions in the neighborhood thread shown above, trying to figure out why the normally quiet intersection suddenly looked like a crime drama set.
Police: No Further Threat
Police told WLWT that the situation was brought under control and that "there is no longer an ongoing concern in the area." Investigators said they recovered the firearm and described the incident as an isolated crisis. The school lifted its lockdown once officers cleared the scene and reopened the streets.
