A two-car crash in southwest Miami-Dade County on Wednesday morning left one driver dead and another shaken but declining a trip to the hospital, deputies said. The collision unfolded at the rural intersection of Southwest 168th Street and 197th Avenue. First responders evaluated the surviving motorist at the scene, but that driver refused transport. Officials have not released the identity of the person who died as investigators continued to work the scene.
According to NBC 6 South Florida, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office confirmed that one driver was killed in the collision, while Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that the other driver was checked out roadside and declined to go to the hospital. The sheriff's office said an investigation into the crash is underway.
Traffic homicide investigators to lead probe
As outlined by the Miami-Dade County Homicide Bureau, the department's Traffic Homicide Unit "investigates all fatal and critical-injury motor vehicle crashes." Detectives typically photograph and measure crash scenes, collect vehicle evidence and interview drivers and witnesses during those probes.
