A North Carolina man was pulled from a Destin hotel room Wednesday night after federal authorities warned he was heading to Louisiana to carry out a mass shooting at a large festival, according to local officials. Bravo East patrol deputies took the suspect into custody without incident, and he is being held as a fugitive while authorities work out his transfer.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said federal partners alerted them that the man was in the Destin area, prompting deputies to move quickly on the tip, WWLTV reported.
How The Arrest Unfolded
After the federal warning came in, Okaloosa deputies from the Bravo East district began checking hotels in the Destin area until they located the suspect, according to investigators. Deputies took him into custody without a struggle and booked him locally before arrangements for his transfer to Louisiana, WAFB reports.
Charges And What Comes Next
Authorities say the man was arrested as a fugitive from justice and will be extradited to Louisiana to face charges brought by state investigators. Louisiana State Police are expected to finish the charging paperwork once they have him in custody, according to KNOE.
Festival Safety Back In The Spotlight
The case lands at a tense time for Gulf Coast festival season. In March, a bomb threat briefly shut down the popular Mac & Cheese Festival at Destin Commons, drawing explosives-detection teams and a multi-agency law enforcement response, WJHG reported.
Legal Fallout Still Taking Shape
Okaloosa deputies say the man remains booked as a fugitive from justice and is being held while Louisiana works through the extradition process. Louisiana State Police have charges pending, and once the suspect is transferred, he is expected to appear in a Louisiana courtroom where prosecutors will formally outline the case against him and the next steps in the investigation, according to KNOE.
Officials have not released the suspect’s name or identified which festival was allegedly targeted. Investigators in Florida and Louisiana say the probe is ongoing and that more details will be released as the extradition and charging process moves forward.
