Two men were shot Thursday evening in St. Louis' Mt. Pleasant neighborhood, leaving one in critical condition, authorities said. The gunfire broke out around 7:30 p.m. on April 9 in the 4500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, where officers later taped off a stretch of residential block. Detectives moved through the scene searching for evidence while neighbors reported a heavy police presence.
According to FOX 2, a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson said both victims were found in the area and one was critically wounded. The spokesperson told the station that police had not released the victims' names or any suspect information at the time of reporting. No arrests were reported in the initial account.
Neighborhood context
Mt. Pleasant has seen violent incidents earlier this year. A separate fatal shooting in January was covered in our reporting, Man Fatally Shot in Mount Pleasant. Residents and neighborhood groups have repeatedly raised public-safety concerns as officers investigate individual incidents across the city.
Police request witnesses
Police asked anyone with information or video of the April 9 incident to contact investigators. Initial reports said detectives were working to determine a motive for the shooting. No further details about injuries or a possible suspect description were released in the initial reports.
The investigation is active and details could change as police release additional information. We will update this report when officials provide new facts.
