Portland’s Hollywood District just landed a new pre-show hangout. The Hollywood Q, a food hall and taproom, has quietly opened across from the historic Hollywood Theatre in Northeast Portland, offering moviegoers and neighborhood regulars a one-stop spot for global bites and a pint before or after a show.
What’s Inside the Q
The venue soft-opened in mid-April and, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive, spans roughly 246 seats and hosts about 10 food pods. The project’s own website lists vendors including Cappadocia, Coco Garden, Dona Carmen, Hamara and La Arepa among the choices inside the hall. Local coverage and posted menus indicate the lineup ranges from Mediterranean and Turkish fare to El Salvadoran and Venezuelan street food.
Spotlight Brewing’s Taproom
On the drink side, a new operation called Spotlight Brewing Company is running the taproom and pouring both canned and on-tap beer. Current offerings include an American-style lager, a West Coast IPA and a Puppy Pilsner. Brewpublic reports that Spotlight’s bar anchors the space at 4035 NE Sandy Blvd and will operate daily, providing the hall’s primary draft selection along with a small run of food from the bar kitchen.
Who Put It Together
The development behind Hollywood Q is led by local operator Palindrome Communities and developer Chad Rennaker, a familiar name for those who follow neighborhood projects and brewery partnerships. Metro has previously covered Rennaker’s work in Portland. Industry writeups note that the beer programming is tied to brewer Alan Taylor, co-founder of Zoiglhaus, who helped launch the Spotlight concept. Beervana and other brewery profiles document Taylor’s role in the Portland brewing scene.
Opening Plans and Neighborhood Fit
The team has set a formal grand opening for May 30, and Spotlight says it will donate $1 to the Oregon Humane Society for every pint of Puppy Pilsner sold, per The Oregonian/OregonLive. "Supporting the theater, supporting the neighborhood (and) supporting the whole concept of visual and artistic arts was really what we wanted to do," one founder told the paper, positioning the hall as a late-night amenity for Hollywood Theatre audiences and nearby residents.
When to Go
Spotlight’s taproom lists weekday and weekend hours that wrap up around an early-evening close, while the food pods are on a rotating schedule expected to grow as vendors settle in. Local food writers who stopped by during the soft opening reported a full, buzzy room and accessible price points, suggesting the Q is already shaping up as a convenient add-on for Hollywood Theatre crowds looking for dinner and drinks close to the marquee.
