Myron King will spend 70 years in prison after a Marion County judge on Friday sentenced him for a 2024 shooting on Indianapolis’s near west side that left 38-year-old Brandon Lewis dead.
King received 60 years for murder plus a consecutive 10-year firearms enhancement, according to WTHR. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said, "In a matter of seconds, the defendant made a decision that forever altered the lives of the Lewis family and his own." Court records show King was convicted of murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun at an April 10 hearing.
The killing and immediate response
The shooting happened on Oct. 5, 2024, near the 1200 block of North Tibbs Avenue. Officers arrived to find Brandon Lewis in an alley with gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by WRTV. Investigators later asked anyone who had been in the area between roughly 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. that day to share any information that might help the case.
Investigation and arrest
Detectives used a phone number linked to King in a prior police report to track him down and located his vehicle in the Brownsburg area before arresting him, according to WISH. Prosecutors said security-camera footage captured King meeting with Lewis, then pulling a handgun and firing twice, and officers later recovered a firearm inside King's home, per WTHR.
What the sentence covers
The 70-year sentence covers King's convictions for murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun, with the extra 10-year firearms enhancement stacked on top of the murder term. The lengthy punishment keeps King in state custody for decades and marks the culmination of a case investigators built on phone records and security video evidence.
