A woman on Indianapolis’ northeast side fought off a man who police say tried to kidnap and rape her, breaking free in a cul-de-sac and escaping with road rash injuries after being knocked down on April 18, according to court documents and police reports. Investigators say she was pulled into a car, driven away, and then managed to get away. Indianapolis police later arrested a man they believe is connected to the attack.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 8600 block of Monterey Road near 38th Street and Post Road on April 18 on a report of an attempted rape. Investigators say they found the victim’s purse and clothing that matched what she had been wearing tossed in bushes near a home believed to be tied to the suspect, as reported by WTHR. Officers also reported that the man they later arrested had bruising and road rash on his face and legs that they say matched what happened during the struggle.

Woman escaped by fighting back, court documents show
Court documents reviewed by WTHR state that the woman “escaped by fighting back” after being pulled from her own vehicle and driven to a cul-de-sac. Investigators say she suffered road rash when she was knocked to the ground as the suspect fled. Police add that bystanders and collected evidence helped them track down the man they later arrested.

Marion County jail records show the suspect is being held without bond, and a federal detainer is also listed against him. He remains in custody while local authorities continue their investigation.
