Late Sunday night, gunfire shattered the quiet in the Fox Meadows neighborhood in southeast Memphis, leaving one man dead and residents with more questions than answers.
Officers arrived just before 11:50 p.m. and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, according to FOX13 Memphis. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Memphis Police Department has classified the case as an active homicide investigation.
Police were called to Hickory Point Lane off Mt. Moriah Road Extended, where investigators stayed late into the night collecting evidence and talking with potential witnesses, FOX13 Memphis reported. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or any details about the suspect’s location.
MPD investigators told FOX13 Memphis that “the shooter and the victim knew each other.” They did not offer a possible motive and said the investigation remains ongoing. Police are urging anyone who knows what happened to speak up.
Past violence in the area
The Fox Meadows area has dealt with deadly gunfire before. A separate fatal shooting was reported there in October 2025, according to Action News 5. That earlier case highlights why police continue to focus on shootings in and around the Mount Moriah and Hickory Hill corridors.
