Maradona-inspired Argentine steakhouse 1986 Steak House is bringing serious live-fire cooking to Coconut Grove, with an opening set for May 4 on the ground floor of the Mayfair House Hotel & Garden. The concept leans into asado, the Argentine style of meat cooked over wood and charcoal, and plans to serve beef sourced from Argentina, the United States and Japan alongside a cocktail program developed out of Argentine bar culture.
Opening and operator
Hospitality group Grupo Orfano is behind the new restaurant, which will occupy the Mayfair House Hotel & Garden's ground-floor space at 3000 Florida Ave. in Coconut Grove, according to Mayfair House Hotel & Garden. It is Grupo Orfano's first new concept in 20 years and will be overseen in the United States by Mexican-born, Argentine-descent operator Stefano Cremasco, according to the Miami Herald.
What to expect
The kitchen is built around a traditional Argentine parrilla, and the menu centers on steaks, including Argentine skirt, American ribeye, New York strip, bone-in short rib, wagyu flap and Japanese A5. Those cuts are joined by charred starters such as charcoal-grilled foie gras, chorizo and sweetbreads. Cremasco described asado as "more than a meal," and the menu also features raw-bar dishes, salads, pasta and several non-steak mains. The cooking approach focuses on fire and salt, with chef Marcel Daguerre emphasizing technique, per the Miami Herald.
Cocktails from Buenos Aires
The drinks program was developed in collaboration with Buenos Aires bar Tres Monos, the small Palermo spot that The World's 50 Best Bars ranked No. 10 worldwide and named Best Bar in South America in 2025. Tres Monos' playful, locally sourced style serves as the template for the Coconut Grove cocktail list.
Where it fits
Miami has seen a wave of steakhouse debuts and high-profile concepts in 2026, and Coconut Grove has emerged as a target neighborhood for new operators. Local coverage of anticipated openings includes 1986 Steak House among several new and upcoming spots, signaling both rising competition and demand for niche, focused concepts, according to Miami New Times.
1986 Steak House is scheduled to open May 4. More information and reservations are available through the restaurant's website at 1986 Steak House.
