A quiet Sunday afternoon in Oak Lawn turned grim when a caretaker arrived for a well-being check and instead found the 76-year-old homeowner unresponsive inside her residence, according to police.
Officers were called around 1:10 p.m. to the 9400 block of South 53rd Court, where they pronounced the woman dead at the scene after responding to the caretaker’s call, CBS Chicago reported. Oak Lawn police said the case appears to be isolated and domestic in nature and stressed that they do not believe there is a broader threat to the public.
Person of interest in custody, victim identified
A person of interest has been taken into custody as detectives work to piece together what happened inside the home, according to Patch. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 76-year-old Maryanne Buss-Kincaid.
Patch also noted that the house where Buss-Kincaid was found is considered a locally historic Oak Lawn home. Police reiterated that the incident appears to be domestic and contained to the residence.
Detectives still gathering answers
Authorities have not released additional details about a possible motive or any pending charges. As of Monday, the Cook County Medical Examiner had not publicly confirmed a cause of death, according to published reports.
Oak Lawn detectives remain on the case as they follow leads and review evidence from the scene, with the investigation still very much active.
