Ferguson residents woke up to another round of violence early Wednesday after a shooting in an apartment complex parking lot left one person dead and another fighting for life, according to police and witnesses.
The call came in at about 3:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Knollway Drive, where officers arrived to find two victims in the parking lot. One person died at the scene and the other was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, First Alert 4 (KMOV) reported.
By midmorning, detectives were still on-site, processing evidence and combing through vehicles in the lot as neighbors described a heavy police presence that stretched into the morning hours. Authorities had not announced any arrests.
Police do not believe the shooting is connected to the violence reported near McCluer South-Berkeley the previous night, according to First Alert 4.
Context
The latest attack lands in a year already marked by gun violence in Ferguson, amplifying long-standing public-safety worries in parts of North St. Louis County. Back in January, a driver was killed with a child in the car near West Florissant, an incident detailed in Hoodline’s earlier coverage, Driver Gunned Down With Child. That case highlighted how quickly a routine drive can turn deadly.
Local officials and law enforcement have repeatedly urged residents to share surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts, arguing that community cooperation is often the missing piece in establishing timelines and identifying suspects.
How to help investigators
The Ferguson Police Department lists its non-emergency number as (314) 522-3100, according to the City of Ferguson. Anonymous tips can be submitted to St. Louis Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477), per St. Louis Regional Crime Stoppers.
Anyone who saw or recorded activity in or around the 1500 block of Knollway Drive early Wednesday is urged to contact authorities to assist with the ongoing investigation.
