Somebody in South Knoxville is suddenly a lot richer after turning a $1 lottery ticket into a $230,000 jackpot in Thursday's Daily Tennessee Jackpot drawing.
A Knoxville player matched all five numbers in the April 16 drawing and scored the full $230,000 top prize, according to a WBIR report that cites information from the Tennessee Lottery. The winning ticket was a single $1 play bought at the Food City on Mountain Grove Drive in South Knoxville.
As of the station's report, there was no immediate word on whether the winner had stepped forward to claim the prize.
How the Daily Tennessee Jackpot works
Daily Tennessee Jackpot is a Tennessee-only drawing that runs every day, with plays costing $1 and an optional Quick Cash add-on for another $1 that offers a chance to win up to $500, according to the Tennessee Lottery.
The lottery's claim rules say drawing-style prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the winning draw, and anyone who wins $200,000 or more has to claim in person at lottery headquarters in Nashville, per the lottery's How to Claim guidance.
Where the ticket was sold
The winning ticket was sold at the Food City located at 7608 Mountain Grove Drive in Knoxville, according to the chain's store listing, which also notes that the location sells lottery tickets.
The Daily Tennessee Jackpot game has already turned out multiple six-figure winners around the state since its launch, previous coverage from LotteryUSA shows.
