Late-night commuters along the Wasatch Front ran into an unwelcome delay Thursday when a FrontRunner train collided with a vehicle at about 10:29 p.m., prompting a service slowdown while crews worked the scene.
The disruption was first flagged on UTA's official X account after the agency reported a vehicle-versus-train incident and warned that riders should plan for delays, according to Utah Transit Authority. Riders were told to monitor the Transit app and UTA's online alerts page for real-time updates and any backup options, per UTA service alerts.
What UTA posted
UTA's late-night X alert read in part, “FrontRunner alert 10:29 pm: expect delays on FrontRunner due to a train vs vehicle incident,” according to Utah Transit Authority. The initial message did not give details on injuries or specify which crossing was involved, and the agency said it would share more information as it came in.
How riders can respond
When a FrontRunner trip stalls, the fallout can stretch across several trains, leaving riders stranded between connections or staring down longer-than-normal waits. UTA urged passengers to build in extra travel time, keep an eye on live train locations in the Transit app, and check its online alerts page for any replacement buses or routing changes, according to UTA service alerts.
Past incidents show disruption can be lengthy
Similar track incidents have shut things down before. In February 2025, an SUV parked on the tracks in Layton was hit by a FrontRunner train, halting service while inspectors checked for damage, as documented by KSL. Earlier this year, service was also brought to a standstill between Farmington and Woods Cross when a runaway horse stopped FrontRunner traffic between Farmington and Woods Cross, as per Hoodline.
For Thursday night's collision, UTA said it would continue to push updates on its official channels as the situation unfolds. This story will be updated if UTA or local authorities release additional details.
