The sudden jolt knocked people off their feet, and at least one woman tumbled down a staircase as the vessel lurched into the pier. The ferry stayed at the dock as crew members and emergency responders checked the scene and directed riders off the boat.
Video of the impact shows the vessel striking the pier, followed by a sharp shake that sent passengers stumbling. "Next thing I know, I just heard a really loud noise and the whole boat shook," passenger Olivia RiosAcuña said. Some riders reported they were kept on board for about 20 minutes before being allowed to disembark, according to ABC7 San Francisco.
"There are no currently reported injuries," Alcatraz City Cruises said in a statement, adding that the company will investigate the docking incident to determine its cause, the operator told ABC7 San Francisco. Crews will also evaluate any damage to both the vessel and the pier and provide updates on possible impacts to service. Some passengers leaving the landing said they were shaken by the collision and questioned how the response on board was handled.

The crash comes on the heels of fresh scrutiny over Alcatraz's docking infrastructure. Earlier this month, public records showed that two of the five piles supporting the island's ferry float had been compromised, which prompted emergency reinforcement work.
