One person was killed and two others were injured Tuesday evening in a violent two-vehicle rollover crash in Rolling Meadows, authorities said. The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. at Algonquin Road and Magnolia Drive, a busy stretch that locals know can back up in a hurry.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, a second victim was critically injured and rushed to an area hospital, and a third person suffered non‑life‑threatening injuries, according to NBC Chicago. Footage from the scene showed fire crews working to free at least one occupant from a heavily damaged pickup truck.
What the STAR team does
The Major Case Assistance Team’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) unit, a multi‑jurisdictional group operating in Cook County, was called in to help piece together what happened. The team provides specialized crash‑reconstruction support to local departments, bringing forensic measurements, detailed vehicle analysis and meticulous scene documentation to severe or fatal collisions, according to the Bartlett Police Department.
Investigation and road closures
Rolling Meadows Police and the MCAT‑STAR reconstruction team are leading the investigation. Algonquin Road between Barker Avenue and Route 53 was shut down and expected to remain closed for the duration of the probe, according to NBC Chicago. Officials have not released the victims’ names or identified a cause, saying only that the inquiry is ongoing.
Why this stretch matters
Algonquin Road is a heavily traveled state route where safety concerns have already been on the radar after other serious incidents earlier this year, and planners have been looking at redesigns for problematic intersections. In February, the Daily Herald reported that local reviews were underway after a pedestrian was struck along the corridor.
