Monday night in Falmouth turned tense as police flooded the Ashumet Valley neighborhood after a reported breaking-and-entering that officers say also involved an assault. According to the department, the suspect took off before officers arrived, triggering a wide search of nearby streets that stretched into the evening. Investigators say the case is still active and are urging residents to stay alert while they work new leads.
Police describe suspect and search
In a post from the Falmouth Police Department, officers said they were called to Ashumet Valley for a reported assault and breaking-and-entering, and that the suspect ran from a residence on Austin Stokes Drive before they got there. The suspect was described as a white man about 25 to 30 years old, stocky, with a crew cut and facial hair, wearing blue pants and a blue jacket with an emblem on the side.
Police searched the area with help from a Mashpee Police Department K9 and a Barnstable County Sheriff's Office drone unit while investigators processed the scene. Anyone with video or tips was asked to email [email protected] or call Detective Andrew Loewen at 774-255-4527 ext. 4521.
How neighbors can help
Police repeated the usual but useful reminders: keep doors and windows locked, leave exterior lights on at night, and give your home cameras a once-over for anything that looks off. The Falmouth Police Department lists Detective Loewen and the department's main contact number for submitting tips and footage on its personnel page. Residents with information or recordings are asked to call the department or use the contact details provided on the town's police site.
Local context
Property crime has been an on-and-off focus for local officers this year. In January, Falmouth police arrested a suspect tied to vehicle break-ins, underscoring ongoing attention to burglaries and thefts across Cape Cod. The Ashumet Valley case remains under active investigation, and police say they will release more information as it becomes available.
