Owner Doreet Jehassi announced the closure on social media, hinting that the team has plans beyond its El Camino run. As reported by YeahThatsKosher, Ma'lawah Bar shared on Instagram that "while this chapter is coming to a close, it’s also the beginning of something new," listing today as its final day of service. The post, which circulated this week, confirmed that the El Camino storefront is wrapping up for good.
From Home Delivery To El Camino Real
The business grew out of Jehassi's home-delivery operation launched in 2019 and found its first commercial space at the Oshman Family JCC in 2021 before moving into a dedicated storefront on El Camino Real in 2024, according to Eater SF. Jehassi left a tech career to build a menu around family recipes, centering traditional Yemenite breads and warm, takeout-friendly dishes.
Rare Yemenite Kosher Fare
Ma'lawah Bar specialized in ma'lawah, kubaneh and jachnun, laminated Yemenite breads served with grated tomato, schug and hilbeh, and operated under Sunrise Kosher certification, according to the Vaad listing. The Ma'lawah Bar listed its El Camino Real address and hours online, while Sunrise Kosher's LOC document shows certification running through the end of May.
