New Orleans police are asking for the public’s help finding a woman they want to question in a December 2025 killing on Chef Menteur Highway, months after a man was shot to death inside a vehicle along the New Orleans East corridor.
On Dec. 29, 2025, officers responded around 3:51 a.m. to the 8500 block of Chef Menteur Highway, where a man was found fatally shot in a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by New Orleans EMS, according to WDSU. Investigators say they now want to speak with Mikia Veaux, named May 15, 2026, as a person of interest who may have information useful to the homicide probe. Police have emphasized she may not be responsible for the shooting but could help fill in key details.
Detectives specifically asked the public to help locate Veaux, including by sharing any information on where she might be found, as reported by FOX 8. Tips about the case can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at 1-877-903-STOP, according to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans.
Person of interest, not a suspect
The New Orleans Police Department stressed in its release that the person in the circulated photo is a potential witness, not an accused killer. The department said the pictured individual "is NOT wanted for this crime and is sought only because of information they are believed to possess", according to Hoodline.
Investigators say publishing images of people who may have information is a routine step while they try to track down leads and corroborate what they already know. In other words, NOPD wants to talk, not necessarily put anyone in cuffs.
Why this matters on Chef Menteur
Chef Menteur Highway and the surrounding New Orleans East corridor have seen multiple police responses in recent months. NOPD’s public major offense logs list several entries for that highway, highlighting the volume of calls to that stretch, according to the department’s records. That pattern is one reason detectives say community tips can be crucial to moving homicide cases forward, per the NOPD major-offense log.
How to help investigators
Anyone with information about Veaux’s whereabouts or about what happened in the early-morning hours of Dec. 29 on Chef Menteur Highway is urged to contact NOPD Homicide at 504-658-5300 or submit an anonymous tip to Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or 1-877-903-STOP, according to WWL. Callers are asked to reference the Chef Menteur investigation so detectives can quickly route the information.
Legal note
Being labeled a person of interest does not mean someone has been charged with a crime. NOPD and local coverage have emphasized that investigators are seeking information rather than alleging guilt. If charges are eventually filed, they will appear in public records and the department will update the case status, as noted by FOX 8.
