Security footage shared with local TV stations appears to show a man carrying a long-barreled gun outside a Rock Hill home shortly before a teenager was shot and killed Saturday night. The family of the victim says they installed the cameras after a daytime shooting at the same house, and that the newly released clips show both incidents.
Video Appears to Show Gunman Circling Home, Firing Through Door
As reported by WBTV, nighttime surveillance video appears to show a person moving around the back of the house with what looks like a long-barreled firearm tucked under a jacket. WBTV also aired a separate daytime clip that appears to show the same figure opening a screen door and firing through it while hiding the weapon, then cocking the firearm as if preparing to shoot again. Local reports say the shooting happened late Saturday near Mount Gallant Road, around 11 p.m.
Family Put Up Cameras After Earlier Daytime Shooting
Family members identified the victim as 19-year-old Camariya Tidwell, according to local reporters. Relatives say they called police after the earlier daytime shooting into the home, then installed the cameras the next day and later shared the footage with media because they want answers. Tidwell’s mother told WSOC, “Why didn’t you find his address four hours ago when he shot through my house?”
SWAT Arrests Suspect, Recovers Gun Near Lake Wylie
Rock Hill police and the York County SWAT team arrested 34-year-old Sean Xavier Hubbard of Clover early Sunday on Fig Branch Road near Lake Wylie and recovered the weapon believed to have been used, according to The Herald. The Herald reports that Hubbard is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and that police obtained a separate warrant charging him with discharging a firearm into a dwelling in the earlier shooting, when no one was home. The paper says he was transferred to the York County jail and is being held without bail.
Bond Denied as Case Moves Forward
Court records show Hubbard was denied bond on Sunday, WBTV reported. Authorities say the case remains under active investigation while local prosecutors review the charges.
Neighbors, City on Edge After Another Deadly Shooting
The killing has stirred fresh anxiety in a city already rattled by gun violence. The Herald has detailed several fatal shootings in Rock Hill this year, including a February double homicide that left a 4-year-old and a 19-year-old dead. Neighbors and Tidwell’s relatives told WSOC they want faster investigative work and clearer communication from police after multiple shootings in such a short span.
Rock Hill police say they are investigating the case as a homicide and have declined to release additional information while the probe continues. Local outlets report that investigators have recovered a weapon and are still interviewing witnesses and reviewing the family’s surveillance footage.
