
A quiet Sunday evening on Indianapolis’ northwest side turned into a crime scene when a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed at an apartment complex, leaving neighbors rattled and searching for answers. The deadly gunfire broke out near 46th Street and Moller Road at the Colonial Square apartments on Renn Lane just before 8 p.m., and homicide detectives are now canvassing the area for witnesses.
What investigators say
Pike Township Fire Department medics and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Renn Lane around 7:45 p.m. on May 24, where they found a 16-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WRTV. Marion County property records list that address as the Glick Colonial Square apartments. Investigators have not released any information about a possible suspect or motive while they work the scene and gather evidence.
Officials release few details
Authorities say they are still trying to piece together what led up to the shooting, and no arrests have been announced, WIBC reports. According to the station, the Marion County coroner’s office was expected to release the teen’s name after relatives had been notified. Police have urged anyone who knows what happened to speak up as the investigation remains very much active.
Victim identified
Local television coverage later identified the victim as 16-year-old Jamell Williams and reported that the shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday near 46th and Moller Road, per WTHR. That report said Williams’ name was released after his family had been notified. Police have not announced any charges in the case.
