Police say a Tell City couple landed in handcuffs Friday after a search warrant at their home turned up meth, hundreds of hypodermic needles and a juvenile sitting in a vehicle outside. A police K9 reportedly alerted to narcotics in the man's car, and both adults were taken into custody on preliminary counts that include dealing methamphetamine and neglect of a dependent. Investigators say the case is still active while prosecutors review the file for formal charges.
What police say they found
According to investigators, officers serving the warrant seized about 15 grams of methamphetamine, roughly 850 hypodermic needles and other items they described as commonly used in drug distribution. After the K9 alerted on the vehicle, police say they found a juvenile in the back seat along with evidence of narcotics, as reported by WTHR.
Another child-neglect case in town
The arrests arrive at a time when Tell City residents are already rattled by high-profile child-neglect investigations. In April, Hoodline reported on a separate case, Tell City toddler horror, that led to murder and neglect charges. The two cases are unrelated, but together they have heightened concern among local officials and neighbors about child welfare in the small river town.
Charges and next steps
Indiana State Police identified the male suspect as 30-year-old Zachary Duncan and said the woman arrested is a 29-year-old Tell City resident. Officers determined the pair are the juvenile's parents, and both were booked on preliminary counts that include dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, neglect of a dependent and possession of paraphernalia. Duncan is being held at the Perry County Jail on active Hamilton County warrants, and the Perry County prosecutor will make the final decision on formal charges, according to WTHR.
Where this fits in broader enforcement
The Tell City case is unfolding as state and regional authorities continue to push large-scale drug investigations this spring. Indiana State Police operations have led to dozens of arrests in recent months, and other ISP-led warrants have turned up significant quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine. Those enforcement drives, detailed by WAVE and WBIW, show agencies ramping up coordinated activity across multiple counties this spring.
All charges in the Tell City case are preliminary, and the suspects remain presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Authorities said anyone with information related to the investigation is urged to contact Tell City police.
