Buffalo Grove police say a Vernon Hills man choked a woman unconscious inside a local hotel room, leaving her with facial bruising and sending her to a nearby hospital. The alleged attack on April 16 led investigators to 28-year-old Bat E. Baasanbat, who was later taken into custody on a felony warrant.
Police account
According to FOX 32 Chicago, officers were called to the Extended Stay in the 1500 block of E. Busch Parkway, where they say a woman had been assaulted inside one of the rooms. Police allege she was choked until she lost consciousness and suffered visible bruising to her face before being transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators say the suspect had taken off before officers arrived that night. Buffalo Grove police state that with assistance from Palatine officers, they identified Baasanbat as the alleged attacker.
Charges and arrest
Buffalo Grove police obtained a felony arrest warrant charging Baasanbat with one count of aggravated battery and one count of unlawful restraint, according to authorities. He was arrested on the warrant and is now awaiting a scheduled court date.
Police say Palatine officers continued to assist during the follow-up investigation that led to the arrest.
Context
The incident adds to a troubling run of cases tied to the same Busch Parkway corridor. The Extended Stay was the site of an armed robbery in December 2024, according to the Daily Herald. Local blotters have also logged multiple calls to businesses along that stretch, and Patch Buffalo Grove has previously covered similar incidents on Busch Parkway.
Legal implications
The felony counts Baasanbat faces could carry significant penalties if he is convicted. As in every criminal case, he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Buffalo Grove police say the case remains under active investigation and that more information may be released after the next court appearance.
