What started as an argument over an ex-wife inside a Coral Gables apartment ended with one man shot and his roommate under arrest Wednesday, according to police. Officers said they found the victim inside an apartment in the 3400 block of Southwest 10th Street with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment. Investigators identified the suspected shooter as 55-year-old Ramon Lauzurique-Gonzalez, who was later located and arrested nearby.
Police: Scene, Injuries And Charges
According to Local10, Miami police officers responded around 5:05 p.m. after reports of a shooting at the apartment and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. The arrest report states the victim told officers he lived at the home with his wife, the suspect and the suspect's ex-wife, and that the fight erupted when Lauzurique-Gonzalez accused his ex-wife of being "attracted" to the roommate.
Jail records reviewed by Local10 list a charge of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm or deadly weapon and show Lauzurique-Gonzalez was being held at the county jail pending bond.
Witnesses Describe Threats And Struggle
Witnesses told detectives that earlier in the day the suspect left the apartment saying in Spanish, "I’m going to solve a problem," then came back through a different entrance, according to the arrest report. One witness said Lauzurique-Gonzalez pointed what looked like a black handgun at the victim and warned, "I’m going to f----- kill you today," before firing.
During the struggle that followed, the victim managed to disarm the suspect and reportedly hit him in the head with the gun. A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was later found near the front entrance of the apartment, Local10 reported.
Arrest And Booking
Officers located Lauzurique-Gonzalez near Southwest 34th Avenue and Southwest Seventh Street and took him into custody, investigators wrote in their report. Records show he was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, the main intake facility for Miami-Dade County.
