What should have been an ordinary Thursday evening drive near Huntley turned deadly when a head-on crash killed both drivers on Big Timber Road in unincorporated Kane County, just west of Sandwald Road, according to officials. Firefighters arrived to find two cars with heavy front-end damage and immediately began life-saving measures on the only occupants in each vehicle. An adult man was pronounced dead at the scene, and an adult woman was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
First responders were dispatched around 5:28 p.m. after multiple 911 calls reported a serious collision in the area, according to FOX 32 Chicago. The Huntley Fire Protection District released the initial details from the scene to the media, while the Kane County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation.
Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Eric Bentley said callers reported people still inside the vehicles and that airbags had deployed. Crews were able to reach both drivers without needing to cut them out of the wreckage, according to radio traffic and the district's account. A medical helicopter was initially requested but later canceled, and Big Timber Road remained shut down for several hours while deputies documented the scene, Lake and McHenry County Scanner reported.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the crash and has not yet released the victims' names, Daily Herald reported.
