Downtown San Diego just added a new neighbor to the Gaslamp Quarter: The Margot Hotel, a design-forward, all-suite property that opened Wednesday, a short walk from Petco Park and the convention center. The eight-floor hotel joins the early roster of Hilton’s Outset Collection, a lifestyle line built around independent, locally rooted stays.
Local outlets and industry trades back up the debut. As reported by KPBS, The Margot is now welcoming guests in the heart of the Gaslamp, while trade coverage notes that the property opened as one of Outset’s first U.S. hotels. Travel Market Report places the opening within Hilton’s broader rollout of the new brand.
Suites and local touches
The Margot features 135 residential-style suites, each with a fully equipped kitchen, open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows aimed at pulling those downtown views straight into the room. The hotel lists an eighth-floor terrace with a fire pit, a fitness center, EV charging and pet-friendly rooms, plus a daily mandatory destination charge that includes premium internet and a modest food-and-beverage credit. These room counts and amenities are detailed on the hotel’s official property page, per Hilton.
What Outset Collection means for travelers
Outset Collection launched in October 2025 as a conversion-friendly lifestyle portfolio designed to keep a hotel’s independent character intact while plugging it into Hilton’s distribution system and loyalty program. Industry reporting notes that the brand is expected to grow mostly through conversions, giving owners flexibility on design choices and food-and-beverage concepts, per Travel Weekly.
Local fit and management
Hilton says the property is professionally managed by Ensemble and that the hotel plans to lean on neighborhood partnerships and local recommendations to deliver what it calls a “well-connected local host” experience. The company’s announcement also highlights a soon-to-open lobby bar and local food partnerships intended to tie The Margot into the Gaslamp’s already busy dining scene, as per Hilton.
The Margot is now accepting reservations through Hilton and third-party booking channels, with additional details available in local coverage and on the hotel’s listing. The new Outset property brings extra room inventory, plus more short-walk options for convention visitors and game-goers, just in time for San Diego’s busy summer event season.
