Six years after Nicholas “Nick” Cordova was shot and killed inside his Gilbert HVAC shop while on a FaceTime call with his children, his family says it still has no answers. Cordova, 40, was killed on May 27, 2020, and the unsolved homicide has remained the focus of a yearslong campaign by relatives and supporters to keep pressure on investigators.
Investigators have renewed appeals this week after releasing footage that shows a man at a nearby gas station minutes after the shooting, though the images have not produced arrests, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. A Silent Witness flyer lists the scene as the 500 block of W. Guadalupe Road and says the shooting occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on May 27, 2020; the nonprofit is offering up to $20,000 for information that leads to an arrest. The flyer also describes one suspect as a “Hispanic or Native American male approximately 5’8" with a heavy-set build.”
Family Keeps Pressure on Town Leaders
The Cordova family has kept the case in the headlines with a "Noise for Nick" campaign and repeated pleas at Gilbert Town Council, saying investigators haven't given them enough information, according to ABC15. "It's been five years of a nightmare," Nick's mother, Theresa Cordova, told ABC15 as relatives and friends urged elected officials to press for more transparency. Public radio station KJZZ reported Gilbert's police chief said state and federal partners are working with local detectives on the active investigation.
How to Report Tips
Silent Witness asks anyone with information to call 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377) or submit an anonymous tip on its website; tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for the $20,000 reward, per the organization's flyer. For non-emergency leads, contact the Gilbert Police Department at (480) 503-6500; the town's police page notes detectives are actively investigating but cannot share details that might jeopardize a prosecution. Anyone with video, photos or other evidence that could help the case is urged to contact police or Silent Witness immediately.
