Gunfire near one of Rogers Park’s busiest transit hubs sent a person to the hospital Thursday night after a shooting just outside the Howard CTA Red Line station, officials said. First responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where the person was listed in fair to serious condition. As of late Thursday, investigators had not released a suspect description or possible motive.
According to ABC7 Chicago, a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson said the incident appeared to be near the Howard station and confirmed the victim was taken to the hospital in “fair to serious” condition. The outlet reported it had reached out to Chicago police for additional details as detectives worked the scene late into the night.
Rogers Park's recent shootings
The shooting adds to a troubling run of gun violence in Rogers Park this year. Hoodline recently covered an unrelated March killing of an 18-year-old woman in the neighborhood, part of a pattern of incidents that have put residents on edge. Local coverage has repeatedly highlighted how often these shootings unfold near transit and how frequently detectives struggle to find willing witnesses or clear surveillance footage, turning basic fact-finding into a slog.
What officials say next
As ABC7 Chicago noted, Chicago police had not immediately released information on suspects or possible charges while the investigation continued. Anyone with information is urged to contact Chicago police or submit anonymous tips through local tip lines, which have become a crucial tool when on-the-ground witnesses stay silent.
