A late Thursday rail tragedy near downtown Fort Lauderdale left a man dead after he was struck by a train and thrown into a nearby body of water, according to authorities. The collision happened around 11 p.m. near the 400 block of Southwest Third Avenue, where first responders later recovered the victim from the water. Investigators have not yet identified the man as they continue to piece together what happened.
According to WPLG Local 10, Fort Lauderdale police officers and fire rescue crews located the man in the water and recovered his body. The crash triggered a late-night traffic mess, with disruptions reported near Broward Boulevard, Sunrise Boulevard and Flagler Drive while crews worked the scene. Drivers were urged to steer clear of the area and instead use alternate routes such as Davie Boulevard and Oakland Park Boulevard. No additional details about the circumstances of the crash had been released.

The fatality is the latest in a string of train-involved deaths in Broward County this year. In March, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Brightline train in Fort Lauderdale, as reported by NBC6. Earlier this week, a Tri-Rail train collided with a vehicle near Oakland Park Boulevard, killing the driver and briefly suspending service in the area, according to WFLA.
