Mission Bay is getting its own throwback party bar this weekend, as Golden Rule, a nostalgia-fueled cocktail spot from the team behind Che Fico, opens Saturday in Thrive City with miniature martinis, retro snacks and a game-day buzz. The walk-in bar is leaning hard into fun: half-shot "little treats" share the menu with pizza rolls and barbecue corn nuts, and a small patio gives Chase Center fans and neighborhood regulars a place to post up before or after events.
Back Home Hospitality’s first standalone bar
Back Home Hospitality, the group behind Che Fico, is opening Golden Rule as its first standalone bar, led by co-founder David Nayfeld, and the team says the bar will debut on Saturday, May 23. As reported by The San Francisco Standard, the concept is framed as nostalgia-fueled rather than a straight-up sports bar. The walk-in spot sits inside Thrive City near Chase Center and is designed to catch the area’s event-driven foot traffic without feeling like a stadium annex.
Tiny cocktails, big theatrics
The menu is built around a half-dozen miniature cocktails dubbed "little treats," plus larger signature drinks like the Mip, the Bi-Coastal and a 50/50 fernet-and-banana blend called Bananagrams. The online menu also touts playful finishes, including a musk-melon and hubba-bubba mist, and pairs the drinks with retro bar snacks like pizza rolls and chile-and-lime chips, according to Golden Rule. Bar director Danielle Peters-Clossey oversees a program that leans intentionally lighthearted and relatively wallet-friendly.
Sports-bar style, tight-quarters vibe
Designer Jon De La Cruz has wrapped the interior in bold orange, red and blue tones inspired by the Warriors’ 1962 jerseys, giving the compact room a vintage sports-club feel without turning it into a memorabilia museum. The bar seats about 16 guests at the counter and the patio can hold roughly 30 people, per The San Francisco Standard. The team says Golden Rule will prioritize fast, walk-in service, especially when Chase Center is hosting games or concerts.
Where it fits in the Che Fico fold
Golden Rule joins the Che Fico team’s other Thrive City outpost, Che Fico Pizzeria, underscoring the group’s growing footprint near Chase Center. The Che Fico site outlines the broader restaurant and market projects in the portfolio, and local reporting chronicled the pizzeria’s opening at Chase Center, as covered by the San Francisco Chronicle. Operators say the new bar is meant to complement, not compete with, nearby restaurants and will stay firmly rooted in the group’s San Francisco lineup.
Hours and service
Golden Rule will open Thursday through Sunday from 5 to 9 PM and will operate on all Chase Center event days, according to the bar’s information page on Golden Rule. The site also highlights walk-in-only service and a focus on shareable, affordable snacks and small cocktails geared toward quick visits. Expect Chase Center events to drive the heaviest crowds, with weekend evenings catering more to Mission Bay locals.
Golden Rule’s debut adds to a growing mini-wave of compact, themed bars built for event districts and nearby residents in Mission Bay. With its mini-martini hook and throwback snack list, the new spot is set up to be a small but noisy player in Thrive City’s bar scene when it officially opens this weekend.
