Uniqlo is turning up the volume in the suburbs. The Japanese retailer is set to open a new, two-level store at Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook this Friday, May 15, 2026, as part of a three-day grand opening packed with live performances, giveaways and Chicago-centric merch. The Oakbrook shop joins the brand's recently reopened Michigan Avenue flagship and its existing Woodfield Mall location, tightening Uniqlo's grip on the Chicago-area market.
What to expect at the Oakbrook opening
According to UNIQLO, the first 200 customers in line each morning will score a free UNIQLO knot bag loaded with a UNIQLO x Garrett Popcorn tin and a treat from Stan's Donuts. Shoppers who spend $99 or more can walk away with a Chicago-exclusive tote designed by JC Rivera.
Inside, the retailer plans UTme! customization stations for artist-designed tees and totes, plus a Japanese calligraphy experience available to app members. Taiko drum performances are scheduled across the weekend to keep the energy up. When the doors open, the Oakbrook store will feature self-checkout kiosks, in-store alteration services and RE.UNIQLO clothing donation bins.
Uniqlo's Chicago push
The Oakbrook debut follows Uniqlo's March return to the Magnificent Mile, where the 600 N. Michigan Ave. flagship drew long lines of shoppers. In a statement quoted by NBC Chicago, Uniqlo USA CEO Fuminori Adachi said the company's strategy is "about thoughtful growth" and about opening "the right stores in the right places." Oak Brook, clearly, made the cut.
Why Oakbrook?
Developers and mall operators have leaned into Oakbrook as a high-performing suburban powerhouse that still pulls shoppers from across the region. JLL notes Oakbrook Center generates more than $1 billion in annual sales and sees about 14 million visitors a year, strong numbers for any mall in 2026. Meanwhile, template for suburban mall reinvestment reporting points out that Brookfield's retail arm has cited Oakbrook as a model for how to reinvest in and revive suburban shopping centers.
