Azusa Unified announced that its Board of Education has selected Dr. Lopez as the next superintendent, with the appointment pending formal approval at the June 16 meeting, according to the Azusa Unified School District. In the district’s statement, board leaders said they were looking for a superintendent who can support Azusa’s multilingual community and widen educational opportunities for all students.

Lopez is listed as Palo Alto Unified’s associate superintendent of educational services on the district website, where he oversees curriculum and student supports, according to the Palo Alto Unified School District. The district has confirmed that Lopez was offered the Azusa post and will leave Palo Alto Unified on June 30 after the transition wraps up, according to Palo Alto Online.

Lopez is the third senior administrator to depart Palo Alto Unified this year. Former superintendent Don Austin separated from the district in February, then was appointed Laguna Beach Unified’s superintendent in May, per a district release from the Laguna Beach Unified School District.
