Skokie has seen deadly cases before
Violent crimes are relatively rare in Skokie, but the suburb has seen high-profile killings in recent years. In 2017, a man was found shot in a stairwell at the Old Orchard mall, according to reporting by the Chicago Sun-Times. In those earlier cases, authorities similarly urged residents to share tips through the same Skokie tip lines being used in the current investigation.
Investigators ask witnesses to step up
Police said detectives are canvassing the area and reviewing potential surveillance footage as they work to determine a motive. So far, no arrests have been announced, and officers are still working to confirm the man's identity, according to WGN-TV.
