A pre-dawn rollover on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) in the south suburbs left a driver dead early Saturday, after a single vehicle crashed in the southbound lanes near South Holland in Cook County. The wreck happened shortly after 4 a.m., and the vehicle came to rest on its driver’s side. Troopers pronounced the driver dead at the scene, and authorities have not yet released the person’s name or any other identifying details.
What officials said
Illinois State Police told ABC7 Chicago that the vehicle was traveling south on I-294 north of milepost 1.25 when it lost control, crossed all four southbound lanes, and rolled onto the driver’s side. According to the station, the crash occurred around 4:15 a.m., and investigators had not identified any immediate cause for the rollover.

The Tri-State Tollway serves as a major freight and commuter route, and ongoing lane shifts and reconstruction work can alter traffic flow and make driving conditions more challenging, according to the Illinois Tollway.
