A man is in extremely critical condition after a shooting in south Phoenix on Thursday morning, according to Phoenix police. Detectives spent hours combing the scene, documenting evidence and trying to piece together what unfolded.
Per 12News, the gunfire broke out around 9 a.m. near Interstate 17 and 2nd Avenue. Phoenix police told the station they did not immediately know who pulled the trigger, and no arrests had been announced at the time of the report. Detectives remained on site as they worked to reconstruct the shooting.

South Phoenix has weathered a string of high-profile shootings this year, a trend that has kept investigators hopping across multiple precincts. In February, a south Phoenix apartment shooting left another man fighting for his life, highlighting how often violent crime has rattled the area.

Anyone who saw the shooting or captured it on video is asked to contact police. Phoenix Police say witnesses can call Crime Stop at 602-262-6151 or report tips to Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377), according to the City of Phoenix and Silent Witness. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a reward.
