Work on Nashville’s new Nissan Stadium came to a sudden stop Tuesday evening when crews were sent home after a reported threat, according to contractors on the project. The East Bank jobsite was cleared as a precaution while the area was checked, and officials said they expected normal operations to resume the following day. As of publication, authorities had not released additional details about the nature of the threat.
What Officials Said
In a statement to WSMV, the Tennessee Builders Alliance said the site was “immediately and safely cleared” and that the Metro Nashville Police Department was notified. After the area was searched, TBA said crews were allowed back on site and that the full work schedule is set to resume tomorrow. WSMV reported that it had requested more information from Metro police and had not yet received additional comment.
Site History and Security Concerns
The East Bank construction zone is no stranger to security scares. Detectives wrapped up an investigation last July after a noose was discovered in a construction area of the new stadium, and the Metro Nashville Police Department said no charges were anticipated. According to a Metro Nashville Police Department news release, detectives developed a person of interest but closed the probe without filing charges.
Local reporting also shows the Tennessee Builders Alliance condemned racist graffiti found at the jobsite, stating, “This morning, racist graffiti was discovered on the jobsite. We condemn this act unequivocally.” The Metro Nashville Police Department reported on those incidents.
Project Timeline
The new stadium remains under active construction, with project documents setting a goal of completing the build before the start of the 2026 NFL preseason if practicable, or otherwise in 2027.
