Kane County prosecutors this week charged an Aurora man and woman with multiple felonies after investigators say a video showing sexual activity in the presence of a toddler was shared through a dating app. The defendants, 25-year-old Sergio I. Campos and 28-year-old Daisy Salinas, were arrested earlier this month and are scheduled to appear in Kane County court on June 17.
What prosecutors allege
According to the Kane County Chronicle, prosecutors say the video was created on or about April 25 and that a woman Campos had met on a dating app reported receiving the clip on May 7. Campos was charged June 5 with four counts of felony sexual exploitation of a child under 13 and a misdemeanor obscenity count for sharing the video, while Salinas was charged June 8 with four exploitation counts. Each exploitation count is a Class 4 felony that carries one to three years in prison and fines up to $25,000 if a defendant is convicted.
The Kane County response
The case was handled by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit, a specialized team of prosecutors and sheriff’s investigators created to pursue online child-exploitation offenses. County public information materials state the unit launched in late 2022 and provides digital-forensics support and dedicated prosecution resources for complex online investigations. County officials say that specialized capacity has been central to several recent local investigations into child sexual-abuse material.
What happens next
Both defendants are scheduled to appear in Kane County court on June 17; the current filings are still only allegations and the defendants remain presumed innocent. If convicted of the Class 4 felony counts, each faces one to three years in prison and possible fines up to $25,000, according to the Kane County Chronicle. Prosecutors and local law enforcement have declined to release additional details while the investigation and court proceedings continue.
