A quiet Saturday afternoon in northwest Atlanta turned grim after police discovered a body inside a home on the city’s westside, officials said.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers were called to the 200 block of Stafford Street NW, where they found a person dead inside a residence. The individual’s identity and cause of death have not yet been released, per FOX 5 Atlanta.
Police: Death investigation underway
Detectives remained at the scene into the afternoon as evidence technicians moved in and out of the house, collecting items and documenting the interior, according to city officials. Investigators have not said whether they suspect foul play and are keeping key details under wraps for now.
Authorities said they will share more once they have a clearer picture of what happened inside the Stafford Street home.
Where this happened
The 200 block of Stafford Street NW cuts through Atlanta’s westside, in neighborhoods near Hunter Hills and the BeltLine Westside Trail. Real estate maps place that stretch of Stafford in the 30314 ZIP code, a pocket that sits close to Maddox Park and the Westside Trail. Local property listings for the street are available through Redfin.
Context: a tense month for the city
The discovery comes just weeks after a deadly stabbing on the Atlanta BeltLine on May 14, 2026, a case that shook trail users and reignited worries about safety along the popular pathway. A woman was killed in that attack, which was widely covered as a high-profile crime. Atlanta News First reported on the BeltLine killing. Investigators have not suggested any connection between that case and the death on Stafford Street.
Officials say they expect to release additional details as the Stafford Street investigation moves forward, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
