Ten people, seven adults and three children, were forced out of their home after a fast-moving house fire tore through a residence on Southeast 2nd Street in Boynton Beach last Friday (June 5). Fire crews moved quickly to knock down the flames while neighbors watched from the street as firefighters sifted through scorched debris. The displaced households are now trying to replace basic necessities and lock down temporary housing as the long recovery process begins.
According to CBS12, two families were affected, and volunteers from the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team arrived shortly after the fire to help organize immediate assistance. Photos shared by the nonprofit show heavy interior damage and charred rooms throughout the home. The families received emergency financial help and were connected with services to support shelter, health and emotional needs as they figure out their next steps.
Red Cross Steps In
The American Red Cross Disaster Action Team provided short-term relief that included cash assistance, referrals for shelter and access to emotional health services, and the organization said it will continue to check on the families in the days ahead, as reported by WPBF. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews fully extinguished the blaze, and WPBF noted that no injuries were reported at the scene. Neighbors and local volunteers have already kicked off small donation drives for clothing and household items to help the families restock the basics.
Cause Under Review and Fire-Safety Reminders
Investigators have not yet released a cause for the fire and officials are continuing their origin and cause work, CBS12 reports. Authorities are urging residents to double-check that smoke alarms are working and to make sure every household has an escape plan in place.
