A domestic dispute that police say had been simmering for months erupted into gunfire Wednesday evening in a Boynton Beach shopping-center parking lot, leaving a Lake Worth man hospitalized and his ex-girlfriend and her friend shaken but physically unharmed.

Investigators say 44-year-old Frisner St. Cyr drove a black Cadillac to the lot at 2244 N. Congress Ave., pulled in front of one of the women’s cars to block it, then stepped out holding a firearm, according to WPTV. St. Cyr allegedly opened fire through the Honda’s windshield and chased the two women as they ran through the parking area. Police say one of the victims fired back during the pursuit, hitting St. Cyr in the chest. He collapsed in the lot, where bystanders tried to help him until first responders arrived, and he was taken to Delray Medical Center in critical condition.

The confrontation played out near the busy Quantum Boulevard commercial corridor, where a car sat with a shattered windshield and multiple spent shell casings littered the pavement as officers locked down part of the roadway and interviewed witnesses. One witness told police they heard what sounded like “an exchange of gunfire” and saw several people moving toward Quantum Boulevard, according to a witness' 'exchange of gunfire' account. The investigation included collecting shell casings and reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses.

Police say the violence grew out of an ongoing domestic dispute. The woman told investigators she ended the relationship about three months ago and moved out. On June 5, St. Cyr allegedly showed up at her workplace, grabbed her glasses and broke them, an encounter that led her to file a police report, WPTV reported.

Charges and Investigation

St. Cyr faces multiple felony counts, including attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, shooting into an occupied vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, authorities said. Police have not reported any physical injuries to the two women.

The Boynton Beach Police Department is keeping the case active and is asking anyone with information or video to call the department’s non-emergency tip line at 561-732-8116 or submit tips online, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department. Detectives say the investigation remains open, and more charges or updates could follow as they work through evidence and interviews.
