What started as a call about a body on a Buchanan backroad has turned into a full-on homicide investigation, with Henry County authorities identifying the victim as 49-year-old Angela Claxton.
Deputies with the Henry County Sheriff's Office were dispatched Friday to 245 Cay Lawrence Road after a caller reported finding a person dead at the address. County officials confirmed that the victim, identified as Mrs. Claxton, was pronounced dead at the scene and that her remains were sent to the medical examiner in Nashville. Investigators are treating the death as a homicide and are asking the public for any information that might help the case.
In a Facebook update, the Henry County Sheriff's Office quoted Sheriff Josh Frey, who said "the investigation is being handled as a homicide." The post also lists contact information for both the sheriff's office and the state tipline for anyone who might have seen or heard something around the Cay Lawrence Road area.
State Agents Join Local Response
Special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are assisting Henry County deputies with the case, a standard move when local investigators need additional forensic and investigative support. The TBI has asked anyone with tips to call 1-800-TBI-FIND (1-800-824-3463) or email [email protected].
Victim Identified
The sheriff's office publicly identified the victim as Angela Claxton, 49, in its Facebook post on the case. Sheriff Josh Frey, who leads the Henry County Sheriff's Office, shared the update, and local reporting notes that the department's main non-emergency number is (731) 642-1672.
Autopsy And Next Steps
County officials said Mrs. Claxton's remains were transported to the Office of the State Chief Medical Examiner in Nashville. The autopsy will determine the official cause and manner of death, findings that typically guide any future criminal charges. If the case leads to prosecution, it would be handled through the 24th Judicial District Attorney's Office in Paris.
