According to FOX 32 Chicago, the Village of Carpentersville police department posted on social media that officers headed to the intersection of Route 25 and Kings Road around 2:30 a.m. after reports of a "significant police presence" in the area. The post urged people to stay away and stressed that "there was no ongoing threat to the public." FOX 32 reported that stringer video from the scene appears to show multiple police evidence markers outside and apparent bullet holes punched through the windows of La Ilusion Restaurant & Bar.

Gunfire is not entirely foreign to the northwest suburban village. In May 2025, the Daily Herald detailed an episode in which a resident confronted someone rifling through his vehicle and shots were fired, hitting a house and a car but leaving no one injured.
