A late-night dating app meet-up in Canton has ended with a life-plus prison sentence and a victim still recovering from devastating injuries. A jury found Prince Hawar Rolle guilty of attempted murder, armed robbery and other violent charges tied to a June 2025 River Ridge Apartments attack that prosecutors say started as an online date and turned into a brutal ambush. The victim, who had invited his match to his apartment, was robbed and shot, then rushed into multiple surgeries after the encounter went violently sideways. Prosecutors said the Cherokee County case was built heavily on digital and camera evidence.

How prosecutors say the ambush unfolded

According to prosecutors, Rolle showed up at the victim’s River Ridge Apartments unit in the early morning hours looking to steal cash and a firearm. Canton police say two men were involved in the attack. One allegedly held the victim at gunpoint while Rolle searched the bedroom, grabbing cash and a loaded handgun that investigators say he later used to shoot the victim in the stomach as the victim and his roommate tried to leave the apartment. The victim was taken to Kennestone Hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries for what officials described as serious injuries, as reported by WSB‑TV.

Prosecutors say cameras helped seal the case

Cherokee County District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway credited detectives and surveillance technology for helping close the case. “Technology often plays an integral role in modern day prosecutions such as this one,” Treadaway said, noting that FLOCK camera footage was key to identifying Rolle. A jury ultimately convicted him of attempted murder, armed robbery, three counts of aggravated assault and several related charges, and a judge handed down a sentence of life in prison plus 10 years, according to WSB‑TV.

Courtroom timeline and full slate of charges

Rolle’s case appeared on the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit docket the week of June 15 and moved forward before a jury in Cherokee County Superior Court, according to the Cherokee County District Attorney’s trial calendar. That docket lists the state’s charges as criminal attempt to commit murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, aggravated battery and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, per the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office.

Second suspect still out there

Authorities say the second man allegedly involved in the robbery has not been publicly identified, and detectives are still asking for tips from the public. With Rolle headed to prison on a life-plus sentence, prosecutors say the verdict takes a dangerous offender off Canton streets while investigators continue to track the remaining suspect. Officials urged anyone with information about the case to contact Canton police.
