A 25-year-old woman was killed early Thursday in a violent two-vehicle crash at Ogden Avenue and 50th Court in Cicero, a wreck that shut down the busy corridor for hours before sunrise. She was pronounced dead at the scene while emergency crews swarmed the intersection, documenting the crash and interviewing shaken witnesses.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the passenger has been identified as 25-year-old Lesly Guevara. Cicero police said a 27-year-old woman in a vehicle entering Ogden Avenue was struck by an eastbound car. The eastbound vehicle was driven by a 23-year-old Cicero man who showed signs of intoxication and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators said the 23-year-old is being held on suspected DUI-related charges while the case is reviewed. A 20-year-old passenger in that same car, identified as Jonathan Hernandez, was arrested on an obstruction charge as officers continued to secure the scene and gather information.
Ogden Avenue safety context
Ogden Avenue has long had a reputation as a trouble spot for crashes. Transportation planners have logged more than 1,300 collisions on studied stretches of the corridor between 2017 and 2021. Prior reporting on the roadway’s troubled safety record highlighted proposals like lane reconfigurations, curb extensions and pedestrian upgrades meant to slow drivers down and cut serious wrecks.
Cicero enforcement efforts
The Town of Cicero has tried to clamp down on dangerous driving in recent years with targeted traffic-safety campaigns. A 2025 enforcement push branded Speeding Catches Up With You singled out portions of Ogden Avenue for heavier patrols, with officials saying the goal is fewer speed-related crashes and severe injuries on the town’s busiest routes.
Cicero police say the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is helping with the investigation while the 23-year-old striking driver remains in custody on suspected DUI charges, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether formal charges have been filed or released the results of any impairment testing as they continue to interview witnesses and review evidence.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area around 12:15 a.m., especially drivers with dash-cam footage, to contact the Cicero Police Department or the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. Phone numbers and online tip forms are listed on the town’s website. Officials are also urging drivers to take it slow on Ogden Avenue while the investigation plays out.
