Salt Lake City is waking up on the mild side. As of Tuesday morning, June 9, Salt Lake City International was seeing mostly clear skies and temperatures around 68°F. Clouds are expected to build through the morning, but the valley should stay comfortable, with a high near 77°F. There is a slight shot at rain before noon and a low chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms, mainly north of the city.
Afternoon Thunder Threat
A weak cold front sliding across northern Utah could trigger isolated thunderstorms after about 1 to 2 PM, with the best chances north of the Salt Lake Valley. Forecasters keep the odds of precipitation in the 20–25% range, but any storms that do pop could bring brief heavy downpours, gusty outflow winds, and small hail. The National Weather Service notes that strong to severe storms may fire over far northern Utah on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Weather Remains The Big Story South Of The Valley
Central and southern Utah are still locked in periods of critical fire weather through Wednesday as gusty southwest winds, with speeds of 30–40 mph in exposed areas, combine with very low humidity. We first flagged this dangerous setup in an earlier post; see this heat-and-wind pattern for background, as per Hoodline.
This Week At A Glance
Wednesday looks mostly sunny with a high near 78°F. A drier and warmer pattern builds late in the week, sending highs into the upper 80s to around 90°F by Saturday. If you are planning outdoor work or any yard burning, hold off while warnings remain in effect and double-check local fire restrictions. Morning commutes should be in good shape across the valley, but keep an eye on mountain routes for gusty or wet stretches if storms manage to develop.
