The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is looking into an officer-involved shooting that unfolded Tuesday evening in Country Club Hills near 189th Street and Loretto Lane, where a quiet residential block suddenly turned into an active crime scene. Multiple law enforcement agencies converged on the neighborhood as officers secured the area and gathered evidence. Police sources told reporters that at least two people were shot, two suspects were taken into custody, and two others remained on the run.
According to CBS Chicago, CBS Skywatch hovered over the intersection as agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined local officers on the ground. A firearm was visible lying in the middle of the street, and investigators were seen closely inspecting a white sedan and a black sport-utility vehicle. CBS, citing police sources, reported that two people were in custody while two others were still being sought.
COPA's Role and How to Help
Per the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the agency is responsible for investigating incidents involving firearm discharges and cases that result in serious bodily injury when officers are involved. COPA's website lists a main office line and an online tips portal for the public. The agency provides a public phone number, (312) 746-3609, for anyone who may have information about this case.
What Investigators Did at the Scene
On-air footage showed investigators fanning out across the neighborhood, canvassing nearby homes, collecting evidence, and taking a hard look at the two vehicles noted by CBS. Federal agents were also visible in the area as the scene stretched across the intersection. Authorities did not immediately release the names of the people who were shot, nor did they indicate whether any charges have been filed at this stage of the probe. Investigators urged anyone with video or other information from the area to share it with law enforcement.
The situation remains an active and ongoing investigation, and officials say they will release more details as they can. News outlets and local residents who saw or recorded any part of the incident are being asked to forward tips or footage to investigators.
