A 45-year-old man was left in critical condition early Saturday after a street-side argument turned violent on the 6400 block of North Richmond Street in West Rogers Park, according to Chicago police. He was shot in the torso just after 6 a.m. and taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition. Officers detained an alleged shooter at the scene as investigators remained on the block.

As reported by ABC7 Chicago, police said the man was walking outside when he began arguing with another person, who then pulled out a gun and opened fire. According to the outlet, officers took the alleged shooter into custody, and Area Three detectives have opened an investigation.

Saturday's shooting lands in a year when West Rogers Park has already seen several incidents of gun violence.
